Sprint Palm Pre

So, in response to a poll on Engagdet (who has overtaken Gizmodo as the BETTER, more news worthy blog) I authored this quick and dirty mini review that follows.

Ive been using my Sprint Palm Pre for about two weeks now and am torn between keeping it, or swapping it out for the Sprint RIM Tour. According to @boygenius who is the only one to compare and review both so far, the Tours build quality is much better in addition to the reception being 2X better! As you may have guessed, those are the top to complaints of my Pre. Here is a list of my Pros & Cons:

CONS: Cheap feeling, screens a bit 'wobbily', Matte Battery cover should be standard as poster above notated. Reception is only average for voice, Data always seems to get a signal and is very quick. Also that stupid button at the bottom is useless and they could do more with the gesture area. I mean, if the whole screen is a gesture area, whats the point of a second one? No expandable memory is inexscuseable in 2009. almost 2010. There is NO reason they could not have put that in, especially where the SIM slot will go in the WCDMA version. Also, no voice recognition for a phone that Multi-Tasks? Again, NO reason, its standard on FREE Sanyos & LGs people. Other stuff Ill let slide because its a 1.0 release.

PROS: I really like the multi touch screen, it seems to be nicer and clearer than the iPhone. Also, its very fast in certain apps (like web browsing) vs. my old iPhone 3G. I like the keyboard a lot, i thinks its perfect. It would be nice to have an on screen one via landscape a la G1. Also, the few apps that are available are very well done and don't all have the SAME gay interface as the iPhone apps. Also, my coverage is much better with Sprint than AT&T, I rarely drop calls. Im also considering getting a femtocell for home which AT&T does not offer. Also, my bill went from $140 to $80. Thats some real change. Finally, webOS is nice, I would even say nicer than Windows Mobile 6.1 or OSX.

The Tour, having the same GPS system, voice recognition and more apps is VERY tempting, but I also know that BB OS 5.0 is basically a cute theme and its apps are very limited in size, in addition to the sub par browsing experience on RIM devices. In the end, I may just wind up sticking it out for a year with Pre version One and hoping part Two will be even better.
